westminster1647.com is a free, non-profit library, with no advertising, no tracking and no user registration. You do not need to create any account or give any information to read, listen to or download its content. This policy explains the little data that is processed when you visit the site or use its Android app, and why.

What data is processed and why

When you visit any page

Like any web server, ours records in its technical logs the IP address, the date and time, the page requested and the type of browser of each visit. They are used to keep the site working, to detect errors and to protect it from abuse, such as massive automated downloads. For the same reason, the server counts for a few minutes how many requests arrive from each IP address, in order to slow down anyone who makes too many. The server logs are deleted automatically after about five weeks, and the application's incident logs after fourteen days. They are not used to identify anyone and are not combined with any other data.

From those same logs, and on our own server, fully aggregated usage statistics are produced (which pages are read most, from which countries, with which browsers, from which search engines people arrive), which only the person responsible for the site sees. We do not use Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics, advertising or tracking tool, and we do not set cookies for that purpose.

Fonts and PDF viewer

The site's fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, and the score viewer of the Psalter from Cloudflare's cdnjs service. When this happens, your browser connects to the servers of Google or Cloudflare, which receive your IP address as with any connection. We do not send them any other data.

Contact form

If you write to us through the contact form, your name, your email address and your message are collected, solely so that we can reply to you. They are not stored in the site's database: they are sent by email, through an email delivery service, to our mailbox, where they are kept for as long as the conversation lasts and as long as necessary afterwards. To protect the form from spam, if a submission is rejected because it looks automated, its IP address is recorded in the incident log (fourteen days).

Reading the Bible

To protect the Bible texts whose rights belong to third parties, Bible reading performs an automatic check, without personal data, which confirms that the visit comes from a person and not from a mass-download program. The result is remembered with a technical code stored in your browser and in your session.

Cookies and data stored on your device

The site only uses technical cookies, which are necessary for it to work, and none for analytics, advertising or tracking; that is why it does not ask you to accept them.

  • westminster_1647_session: technical session, necessary for the site to work (forms, protection of Bible reading). It expires after two hours of inactivity.
  • XSRF-TOKEN: security protection for the forms. It lasts as long as the session.
  • locale: the language you choose, so that you do not have to choose it again.
  • In the browser's local storage: the Bible version and the passage you were reading, so that you can pick up where you left off, and the reading-check code. They never leave your device, except for that code, which is sent to our own server.
  • A copy of some pages, stored by the browser itself so that the site can show a notice when you are offline.

You can delete all of this whenever you like from your browser's settings; the site will keep working, although you will have to choose the language again.

Android app

The “Westminster 1647” app displays this same website, so everything above also applies to it, and it does not collect any additional data. It only asks for permission to access the internet. It has no advertising, in-app purchases or user accounts, and it does not access your contacts, your location, your photos or any other data on your device.

Who the data is shared with

We do not sell or transfer data to anyone. The only parties that process it, on our behalf, are:

  • FreakHosting, which rents out the server where the site is hosted (its network is registered in Germany).
  • Google, which serves the fonts (Google Fonts).
  • Cloudflare, which manages the domain, forwards email addressed to it to our mailbox and serves the PDF viewer.
  • An email delivery service, which delivers the messages from the contact form.

Google and Cloudflare may process data in the United States, under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and the standard contractual clauses of the European Commission.

Minors

The site is suitable for all audiences, but it is not specifically aimed at children and does not knowingly collect data from minors.

Your rights

You can ask to access your data, correct it or delete it, object to its processing, restrict it or request its portability, by writing to the contact address above. If you believe your rights have not been respected, you can lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, AEPD).
